A Step by Step Guide to Setting Up Your Access Control System
This is not to say
that you would do it yourself, but at times, it helps to understand the
procedures that the installers will follow to set up your access control
system.
Access Control System |
The knowledge of
these procedures will allow you to be in full charge of the process and to know
what would be next and to gauge how long it might take before your company is
ready to take on this new system you have for so long planned to put in place
for it.
Access Control System Setup
These are the things your installer would do, in
order, when setting up your access control system:
· Run the cables: It’s
just like it is with building construction. Before anything else can be done,
the foundations have to be set. The cables in this case are the foundation for
the whole procedure. So when you see your installer running the power and
signal cables while setting up your access control system, don’t be surprised.
· Install the readers at the door: Once the power has been connected, the readers will be
screwed into place on the walls and connected to it.These readers need the
internet to function, and as such, they must be connected for the proper
installation of the rest of the software.
· Setup and testing: The
next thing you would probably see as your installer continues with the setup of
your access control system is theserver under construction. See, every access
control system needs a server where the permissions will be stored in an access
database.
Let’s just put it like this, this process involves
putting together the brain of the whole system. Now, you see, that’s important.
The setup will allow them to test and configure the software to make sure your
doors unlock correctly.
· Install the access control panel in your IT room: At this point, your installers will shift base to your
IT room to install the access control panel, also known as the intelligent controller. A single panel can sometimes control up
to four doors.
Why should the ACP of your access control system be
locked away in your IT room? You think.
Well, it’s because it manages all the access
activities for your doors. Yes, all locked doors are wired to this panel. It is
only best you restrict access to the access control zone. That’s the whole
point, isn’t it?
· Install the locks:When
they start working on the locks, you know the installation of your access
control system is almost complete. It will only take a while and once this step
is completed, you can be sure that your access control system is in place and
ready to use.
Alas, the time has
come for you to take full charge of running your company. Who knows what? Who
goes where? It will be up to you to decide boss.
